Braeurosl at Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, 2015

Mobile Edge Computing is set to revolutionise data processing and lead innovative new business opportunities. In September 2016, the MEC ecosystem will unite in Munich to forecast the future of this pioneering new technology.

MEC Congress won’t be the only revolutionary movement happening in the city.  20 – 22 September 2016 is the first week of Oktoberfest – and we didn’t want to miss out on the fun.

We’ll be hosting MECtoberfest at the end of Day 1, complete with music, beer and bratwurst.  In anticipation, here are 5 things you didn’t know about the world’s largest beer festival:

  1. It’s over 200 years’ old

Oktoberfest began in 1810 when thousands gathered to watch a Royal Wedding. Now around 6 million people flock to the Oktoberfest field each year to celebrate what’s become an important part of Bavarian culture.

Join Oktoberfest’s 200-year history by networking with over 200 people from the MEC ecosystem.

  1. It’s not just about the beer

Okay, it’s mostly about the beer – 6 million litres are expected to be drunk over the course of the festival. But there will all be family attractions, carnival rides and over 600 food vendors. Spatzle comes highly recommended, described as the German mac and cheese.

Enjoy a beer and a bratwurst at MECtoberfest as you network with leaders in MEC.

  1. It should actually be called Septemberfest

Traditionally the festival took place in October, but it was moved to September in an attempt to find the longer nights and warmer weather.

  1. It boasts great music

Oktoberfest is known for its mass singalongs. While the future of MEC is being debated at the Westin Grand, thousands of revellers will be arm-in-arm learning traditional German dance.

Don’t worry, we’ve lined up an amazing brass band for MECtoberfest so you don’t miss out on the fun.

  1. It’s possible to experience Oktoberfest in style

With 6 million people vising Munich over 16 days, accommodation is in high demand and it can get pretty pricey. To help combat this, we’ve sorted you out with a great rate at the Westin Grand when you buy your pass for Mobile Edge Computing Congress.

Register today and become an expert in MEC, experience Oktoberfest and return to work recuperated.

Mobile Edge Computing Congress will bring together MNO’s, end-users, OTT’s, developers, solution providers and associations. Don’t want to miss out? View the full line-up and save £200 on your ticket today
