Don’t Miss: Mobile Edge Computing Demos at MWC Article

MWC is just around the corner! To help you make the most of your experience at this monster mobile event I have put together a list of key MEC PoC’s and Demos you shouldn’t miss if you are in Barcelona next week.

This isn’t an exhaustive list, if you’re aware of any more demos that I have missed please email me directly

Firstly three ETSI MEC Proof of concepts will be demonstrated at MWC…

POC: Video User Experience Optimization via MEC – A Service Aware RAN PoC
Intel – China Mobile – iQiYi
Where? Intel – Hall 3 Stand D30

POC: Edge Video Orchestration via MEC
Who? Nokia – EE – Smart Mobile Labs
Where? GSMA Innovation City, Hall 3, 3A11 and 3A31

POC: FLIPS – Flexible IP-based Services
InterDigital – Bristol is Open – Intracom – CVTC – Essex University
Interdigital Booth – Hall 7 Stand 7A71

For more information about the PoC’s visit:

There will be plenty of other of MEC demonstrations going on around the rest of the exhibition, including;

MEC Demo: Mobile Edge Computing & NFV
What will you see? Slideware covering MEC in general, Juniper’s high-level MEC architecture, MEC use cases and Juniper’s joint solution with Saguna Networks
Where? Juniper Booth – Hall 2, 2J60

MEC Demo: The advanced Saguna Open-RAN MEC platform
What will you see?
- vCDN: together AMD (high-performance/low-power AMD Embedded R-Series processor) and CloudFlare (Content Acceleration MEC Application with keyless SSL technology)
- Augment Reality (AR) for retails: together with ADLINK Tech (rugged SETO-1000 extreme outdoor server) and CIMAGINE (augmented reality e-commerce MEC application)
- Content optimization by content server based on MEC Bandwidth Guidance: together with AKAMAI
Where? Saguna Booth – Hall 5, Stand 5C81

MEC Demo: Showcasing zone applications for connected venues (using stadiums as an example)
What will you see? Edge video orchestration, user engagement and object tracking
Where: Nokia – Hall 3, Stands 3B and 3D

MEC Demo:OpenEPC including distributed Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) deployment of EPC for IoT and public safety
What will you see?
- Public safety with a distributed EPC providing increased resilience using a distributed core network with a unique horizontal handover of sessions as subscribers roam between EPCs
- Internet of Things (IoT) use case where a distributed EPC at the edge of the mobile network avoid backhaul and reduces latency by keeping local traffic local
Where: ARM – Hall 6, Stand 6C10

MEC Demo:ACS will showcase SpiderCloud’s MEC platform
What will you see? ACS, with its client and carrier ready integrated offering, will demonstrate VoLTE Unified Communications, presence enabled digital media, Local IP Access (LIPA), fixed mobile convergence, Mobile Video Capture and content caching. The demonstration showcases enterprise IT integrating their applications and creating a seamless, mobile user experience
Where: Intel – Hall 3 Stand D30

MEC Demo: Mobile Edge Computing Gateway (MECG) demo
What will you see? The MECG offers valuable added value to any LTE (and beyond) network by performing the following functionality:
- Offloading the LTE network core load
- Scheduling mechanism which optimizes network resources
- Location-based added-value : Marketing, Sales, Law enforcement, traffic control
- Improving traffic by traffic “sensing : monitoring, auditing, QoS and accounting based on DPI
- Data acceleration for value-added services : Pre-loaded and pre-charged voice and video
Where: Raisecom – Hall 5, Stand 5C11
